Education Foundation's "Celebration of Education" Set for June 4

The Education Foundation of Greendale will host the Celebration of Education, formerly the Night of the Arts, on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Tuckaway Country Club, 6901 W. Drexel Avenue, Franklin, Wisconsin. The Celebration of Education provides a special opportunity for Greendale community members, businesses, parents, faculty and students to join together to acknowledge the achievements of Greendale students and alumni.

The fun and informal event will include live music from RoShamBo, raffle items, limited auction items including one-of-a-kind, student-created works of art, in addition to hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

“Over the years, the support from so many parents, businesses and residents has enabled the Education Foundation of Greendale to provide resources that enabled our schools to provide those ‘extras’ that help our students to be top achievers’” said Ron Irwin, Education Foundation President. ”This year, proceeds from our community event will help bring technology to all of our elementary students to personalize their learning experience – giving teachers a way to individualize parts of their classroom day.”

Funds raised at the Celebration of Education will help with the purchase of Apple Technology that includes a hand-held tool customized to the tasks that students deal with every day in the elementary classroom.

“Students have to be more proficient with technology if they are going to succeed in school and in their working lives,” said Irwin. “We want to put these tools in their hands early. It will give them a means to conduct research on the Internet; collaborate electronically with project teammates; take notes on a field trip; watch educational films, lectures, and try their hand at literally thousands of educational applications.”

As an annual community highlight, the Education Foundation of Greendale will present the “Inspiration Award” to an esteemed recipient during the Celebration of Education event. This year’s honored guest, Dr. Arthur J. Dorrington, will be acknowledged for his commitment to the community. A second award, recognizing the business partner of the year, will be presented to Johnson Direct for a significant commitment to raise awareness of the many accomplishments of Greendale Schools and a commitment to the Education Foundation of Greendale.

Tickets are $25 each, and may be purchased at Greendale High School, Greendale Park and Recreation Department, Reiman Visitor Center or on the website at www.efgreendale.org
